1 Peter 2:11-12 – Sojourners and Exiles

“Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.”

Our status here on earth is as a sojourner and exile. We should live as a stranger here on earth. Our first allegiance is to our King and His Kingdom, ruled presently by His Son, Jesus Christ. All of our other allegiances here on earth are secondary to this.

We should never feel comfortable with this world. There should always be the desire to come home, to my real home with Jesus.

Yet we are here at Your command to be Your ambassadors representing Your interests here on earth. Always pointing to our good and gracious King who has given us the ability to become citizens in Your Kingdom, providing us with the righteousness needed through Your Son’s great sacrifice.

Prayer: Father, what a gracious and good King you are. I pledge my allegiance to you Lord God. I am yours and You are mine.
