1 Peter 3:14-17 – Preparing a Defense

“But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in our hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.”

“…being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you…”

This is in the context of suffering “for righteousness sake.” This is not talking about being a good debater over apologetics or some divisive topic but instead giving a gentle and respectful answer to my accusers when they falsely accuse me of doing something wrong.

Prayer: Father, let my life shine with hope and good behavior so that when I humbly answer them they will see Christ in me, the hope of Glory. May I leave every conversation with a good conscience. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to You, Oh Lord.” Ps. 19:14 Amen
