Remember that “the end of all things is at hand, therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded”. Why? “For the sake of our prayers”!
So, for the sake of our prayers quit participating in things that hinder sweet communion with God. Communion with God should be our highest pursuit. How sweet that is!
Have you ever experienced a time where you were so close to God that you felt like you could reach out and touch Him? Sometimes in my prayer life I imagine being in a park and walking up to a bench where Jesus is sitting. Imagine leaning on him and telling him everything as he listens intently to every word. He misses nothing. He does not check out. His mind does not wander. You are the most important person in the world to him. He loves you. What joy overwhelms my soul at those times. Those moments are hard to explain but they eclipse any other life experience. Why allow anything to hinder that joy?
Prayer: Father help us to pursue you more than anything in this world. We look forward to sweet communion with you today. Bring us close. Make the things of this world fade away. Help us to serve our brothers and sisters in Christ with love. To you belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen
