Matthew 5:1

“Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him,”

Up close and personal.  The crowds and the disciples.

The crowds were there but the disciples came. The difference? The disciples were proactive. The crowds passive in comparison.

Those closest to Jesus wanted to be close not for the healing or some miracle but just because they were followers of him and wanted to hear him. They wanted to stay close to him. They had been called personally to follow him. So they came to Jesus.

What about us? Do we just want to be with Jesus with no strings attached? Or are we like the crowds, standing on the outside looking in, waiting to see what Jesus is going to give them.

Become part of His inner circle. Put your faith in Jesus as the perfect sacrifice for your sins. Turn to Him, the author and perfector of our faith. Enjoy his presence in your life. Talk to Jesus. Listen to him speak to you through His Word.

Prayer: May this be true for us, Lord Jesus. May our hearts desire be to be close to you, to come to you, to follow you. Please assure us of our relationship with you. Make it so Lord Jesus, make it so. Amen
