Matthew 5:17-20

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Focus for a minute on this phrase at the end of verse 18. “…until all is accomplished.

There will come a time when the Law will be no more. That time is when all is fulfilled, judgement finished, sin gone and a new heaven and new earth.

Then there will no longer be any need for the Law because there will be no more sin, no more Satan, no more fallen man. Everything will be made new and perfect. The Law will be written on our hearts. We will no longer disobey or rebel. We will be in perfect harmony with God, in His perfect world for eternity. I can’t wait!!

We can look forward to this time because Jesus fulfilled the Law perfectly for us. His life lived has been given to us, imputed to us, by faith as if we lived a perfect life obeying the Law. Now my faith in Jesus results in the ability to obey Him. Jesus is the answer to my “righteousness exceeding that of the scribes and Pharisees,” and our future is secure in Him.

Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus for imputing your righteousness to us. Thank you for fulfilling the Law perfectly and becoming the perfect sacrificial Lamb, taking away the sins of the world. Thank you for giving us this gift of faith to believe and now know and obey You. We long for Your return. Come Lord Jesus. Amen
