James 1:9-11

“Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away. For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich mand fade away in the midst of his pursuits.”

One verse, one partial sentence dedicated to the “lowly brother”. But oh the outcome! “Exaltation!” After living a humble life here on earth, what awaits him when he passes from death to life? Exaltation! What is exaltation you ask? It is a lifting up by and for God’s glory for all to see. In Joshua 3:7 “The LORD said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.” The lowly brother will be lifted up for God’s glory! His time on earth was well spent.

Not so for the rich man. He will be humiliated. He will look at his pursuits while here on earth and be ashamed of the time wasted. He was not even able to finish all “of his pursuits.”

Which will we be this year? Will we humbly walk before the Lord? Or will we pursue our own desires?

Prayer: Father help me to walk humbly before You, my King. Let me serve Your Kingdom and pursue Your righteousness. Thank you for Your indwelling Spirit to empower me with strength and wisdom this year. I worship You alone, my Lord. Amen
