James 1:22-25
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.”
Be “…a doer who acts..”v.25 “be a doer of the word…” Just do it!
“Look into the perfect law…” Jesus perfectly fulfilled the law. Look at Jesus. Keep our eyes on Jesus!
So, what does being a doer of the word look like? Follow the Bible. Let my actions reflect the Bible. Let my thoughts and plans flow through the Bible. Know the Bible. Memorize the Bible. Meditate on the Bible. Let the Bible be the filter that we run everything through including our culture, relationships, desires, and plans. Let it be our ‘default’ setting in our life.
Prayer: Father, the Bible is your love letter to me. It is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Let your word direct my doing. Let your word direct my thoughts and let your word direct my intentions. Grant me the ability to be a doer who acts according to Your word. Amen
